Finding Strength to Get Started

October 2024

I’ll start this blog post tomorrow…

But seriously, have you been there before? It’s that place where a task seems so grandiose in your mind and you absolutely need to do it, but the mere thought of getting started drains the life force from you. Overthinking has crept in and somewhere deep down (or not so deep down), you feel as if no action is the best course of action.

And yet, after some time passes and pressure mounts, you eventually find a way to get the job done. Regardless of the difficulty, the sense of accomplishment made all the mental consternation worth it. You may even tell yourself that the task was easy or easier than expected.

It’s so simple to overlook, but something special happened. There was a critical moment – a moment where you found your strength and simply got started. It’s as if once you had begun, you couldn’t be stopped. Adjustments may have been made along the way, but moving forward was the only option.

As you were in the process of completing the task, you may have noticed a few things:

  • You remembered your “why”.

  • You gained knowledge and wisdom through action.

  • You gained momentum.

  • You visualized the finish line.

Finding the strength to act towards your financial independence can be overwhelming. The concept of financial freedom itself can feel so abstract, considering it means different things to different people. Fortunately, if you have experience completing tasks in your life, you’re more equipped to reach financial independence than you may realize. The same principles that allowed you to prevail in your past can also be applied in this area.

  • Remember your “why”: Take your power back. Live a life of meaning, however you choose to define it.

  • Gain knowledge and wisdom: You have already been learning from your own actions, whether positive or negative. Keep applying the lessons you’ve learned. Working with an experienced Financial Advisor can dramatically accelerate this learning and help avoid pitfalls.

  • Gain momentum: Either you have experienced, or you will experience the benefit of making productive financial decisions and how these decisions (just like your investments) compound on one another.

  • Visualize the finish line: Imagine a life where you remove financial angst. Imagine that feeling of financial success. Imagine reaching your goals, and learning it was easier than expected.
